46201 Princess Elizabeth, 18th September 2011 at Croft Railway Bridge Darlington

Me and Andrew visited croft today on a little excursion to find a nice place to get a photo of LMS Princess Class 4-6-2 no 46201 Princess Elizabeth on the NRM Shuttle run , running between York and Shildon. After a little tour down a path and a little help from google earth a lovely spot was found by the 1840 built Croft Rail Bridge. We found an old british rail county sign here too .. heres the pics ... enjoy

Steam at Saltburn and the Early Days

My first recollection of steam engines was in 1959 when my dad bought a caravan at Saltburn by the sea which was adjacent to the railway. The other boys on the caravan site lived by the railway at Stockton and already had an interest in steam engines. We used to sit for hours on the railway fence watching the freight trains going to Skinningrove and the local Saltburn to Darlo shuttle This was headed by L1's there was the King's Cross express and on bank holidays specials from further afield. This interest stayed with me untill the mid sixties when the men in grey suits arrived, though I still have the enjoyment of occasional trips to a restored railway, and my kids grew up to have memories of the Grosmont steam railway and trips to York. My son Andrew and I have a mooch from time to time and er,I think more trips to come. At present I am reading railways restored 2011. catch you soon must look out those old.. photo's and get them scanned in and on here soon ...
